Bruce Schneier
Bruce Schneier's AI work connects cybersecurity research to debates about democracy and consumer data. He studied physics at the University of Rochester and computer science at American University, then worked in defense cryptography and at AT&T Bell Labs. He started Counterpane Consulting in 1991 and published Applied Cryptography in 1993. Later, he modeled political systems with machine learning, coauthored research on generative AI and democracy, and wrote Rewiring Democracy with Nathan Sanders in 2025. As of October 2026, he is Chief of Security Architecture at Inrupt, where he writes about data integrity for consumer AI.
