Arindam Das
Also known as Arindam K. Das
Arindam Das is an electrical engineering researcher whose work applies machine learning to DNA identification, low-power camera systems and time-series classification. He coauthored wireless-network optimization in 2002, held a RainLab postdoctoral role in 2005, joined Eastern Washington University in 2012, and coauthored disaster-hardening work in 2017. In 2021, he coauthored a DNA identification study; in 2023, he coauthored a DNA memory proposal and mentored a smart-camera project; at UW’s March 2025 Research Showcase, he was an author and adviser on time-series classification research. As of October 2026, he is an associate professor at EWU and an affiliate associate professor at UW, holds MS and PhD degrees from UW, and works in statistical learning, educational data mining, network intrusion detection and power-grid resilience.

Timeline
-
2002
Ant colony broadcast paper
In 2002, he coauthors “The Minimum Power Broadcast problem in Wireless Networks: An Ant Colony System Approach” with Robert J. Marks II, Mohamed El-Sharkawi, Payman Arabshahi and Andrew Gray. The paper applies an ant colony system to reduce wireless broadcast power.
-
2005
Postdoctoral fellow in RainLab
In 2005, he works as a postdoctoral fellow in Mehran Mesbahi’s RainLab.
-
2012
Joining Eastern Washington
Eastern Washington University first hires him in the 2012 academic year.
-
November 2017
Hardening power distribution
In November 2017, he coauthors “Distribution Systems Hardening against Natural Disasters.” Its two-stage stochastic formulation links the components selected for hardening with the sequence of post-disaster repairs.
-
July 2021
DNA sequence identification
In July 2021, he coauthors “A machine learning approach for accurate and real-time DNA sequence identification.” He helps design the research, and its gradient-boosted tree classifier uses conductance histograms to classify molecular samples from electrical measurements.
-
April 2023
DNA crossbar memory
In April 2023, he coauthors “Performance analysis of DNA crossbar arrays for high-density memory storage applications,” which proposes a DNA read-only memory that can be read electrically.
-
2023
Mentoring a smart camera project
In 2023, he mentors Mark Norman and Justin Liebert on “Distributed Smart Camera System.” The project develops software for a low-power microcontroller and aims to classify objects and events before sending image or video data over a wireless network.
-
March 2025
UW time-series classification
At UW’s March 2025 Research Showcase, he is listed as an author and adviser on a time-series classification project that combines recursive piecewise linear approximation with machine learning.
-
As of October 2026
Professorships at EWU and UW
As of October 2026, he is an associate professor of electrical engineering in EWU’s Department of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering and an affiliate associate professor in UW’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. His research includes statistical learning, educational data mining, network intrusion detection and power-grid resilience; he holds MS and PhD degrees from UW.
