Anthony G. Cohn
Anthony G. Cohn studies how AI represents space and reasons about it, linking logical models with vision, infrastructure and decision support. After research at Warwick, Cohn moved to Leeds in 1990 and founded a group in knowledge representation and reasoning. The group focuses on qualitative spatial and spatiotemporal reasoning. Cohn works on spatial ontologies, language grounded in vision, remote-sensing analysis and foundation-model evaluation. His career connects formal representation with practical questions about the information an AI system can use.

The Region Connection Calculus
Cohn contributed to the shared research that introduced the Region Connection Calculus in a KR 1992 paper. The calculus represents relations between spatial regions. Cohn received a KR 2020 Test-of-Time Classic Paper Award for that work.

Applications in vision and infrastructure
Cohn received a 2004 machine-intelligence prize for work from the Cogvis project. The VAULT system integrated underground-utility records and received innovation awards in 2012.
