Wolfram Burgard
Wolfram Burgard researches robotics, AI, learning and computer vision. His shared work includes probabilistic robotics and methods for mobile-robot localization. Burgard earned a Bonn computer-science doctorate in December 1991, worked there as a research scientist through 1999 and became a Freiburg associate professor in 1999. With Sebastian Thrun and Dieter Fox, Burgard co-authored Probabilistic Robotics, published by MIT Press in 2005. He also coauthored work on particle filters for robot localization. He led automated-driving and machine-learning work at Toyota Research Institute from January 2019 to March 2021. He became a full professor at Nuremberg and its founding department chair in 2022.
