Wolfgang Bibel
Wolfgang Bibel researches automated deduction and other logical foundations of AI. He studied mathematics in Munich and earned a mathematical logic doctorate in 1968. His career included Munich, a professorship at British Columbia in 1987 and a move to Darmstadt in 1988, where he established AI research. His connection method addresses automated deduction through a compact proof framework. He also coordinated Germany’s automated-deduction program during 1992–1998 and helped organize European AI research. As of 2022, he continued research after his retirement.

1964–1968
Mathematics and logic
He earned a mathematics diploma in 1964 and a doctorate with a mathematical logic thesis in 1968, both at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.
-
1987–1988
From Vancouver to Darmstadt
He became a professor at British Columbia in 1987. He moved to Darmstadt in 1988 and established AI research there.
-
1992–1998
Coordinate automated deduction research
He coordinated Germany’s national automated-deduction program during 1992–1998. His research covered deductive systems, knowledge representation, planning, learning and program synthesis, linking logical methods with broader AI problems.

Continue work on proof methods
His connection method is a central contribution to compact automated deduction. He continued publishing and conducting research after retiring.
