Tao Mei
Also known as Mei Tao
Tao Mei is a researcher whose work centers on large-scale video analysis and understanding. The International Association for Pattern Recognition named him a fellow in 2016 for that work, and he co-wrote the MSR-VTT video description dataset at CVPR 2016. He earned a doctorate at USTC in 2006, moved from Microsoft Research Asia to JD.com in 2018, and was elected an IEEE Fellow in 2018. He was elected a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2022. As of October 2026, he is founder and CEO of HiDream.ai, a company founded in March 2023 to build generative multimodal models.
