Svetlana Lazebnik

Also known as Світлана Лазебник, Svitlana Lazebnyk

Svetlana Lazebnik is a professor of computer science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where her work centers on computer vision. She was born in Kyiv, studied computer science at DePaul University, and completed her PhD at Illinois in 2006 under Jean Ponce. Her 2015 work on region-to-phrase correspondences led to the Flickr30k Entities paper, and the 2016 Longuet-Higgins Prize went to her spatial pyramid matching work, shared with Cordelia Schmid and Jean Ponce. The IEEE named her a Fellow in 2021 for contributions to computer vision, and she co-authored ZipLoRA, presented at ECCV 2024. She is also a co-editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Computer Vision.

    She is born in Kyiv in 1979 and emigrates to the United States as a teenager. She majors in computer science at DePaul University and graduates with the highest honors in 2000.
