Stanley J. Rosenschein
Stanley J. Rosenschein contributed to logical language processing and situated-agent design. With Stuart Shieber, he published the 1982 PATR translation work at SRI, including deductive question answering. AAAI elected him a founding fellow in 1990 with a Teleos Research affiliation. With Leslie Pack Kaelbling, he coauthored the 1995 account of situated representation and control. Later work with Todd Davies studied coordination tools for active support networks.

1982
Turning language into logical forms
With Stuart Shieber, Rosenschein described a syntax-directed translation scheme for English. The PATR system handled constructs including tense, aspect and modals and was embedded in a question-answering system requiring logical entailments. The research took place at SRI’s Artificial Intelligence Center.

AI community recognition
Rosenschein was among AAAI’s founding fellows in 1990, with Teleos Research as his affiliation.

1995
Representing situated agents
With Leslie Pack Kaelbling, he described a methodology based on situated-automata theory. It connects the meaning of an agent’s computational states with its ongoing interaction in a dynamic environment. The paper discusses tracking perceptual conditions and producing purposeful actions.

Coordinating support networks
With Todd Davies, Rosenschein studied technology for active support networks. The paper reports needfinding studies and an open coordination architecture with task templates and social prompting. The paper was submitted in 2017 and published in AI and Society in 2018.
