Shawn Lewis is an AI tools builder and co-founder of Weights & Biases, which develops software for machine-learning teams.     Early engineering work

    He earns a B.S. in computer engineering at Virginia Tech and works as an engineer at Google. Before he co-founds Weights & Biases in 2017, he founds Beep and serves as its CTO.

  2. 2017

    Co-founding Weights & Biases

    He co-founds Weights & Biases in 2017 with Lukas Biewald and Chris Van Pelt. The company builds tools for AI developers and machine-learning practitioners.

  3. June 2023

    W&B product expansion

    In June 2023, as CTO and co-founder, he introduces W&B Weave and W&B Production Monitoring. The tools support building and monitoring machine-learning applications across the full workflow.

  4. January 2025

    Building an o1 agent

    In January 2025, he builds an OpenAI o1-based programming agent that achieves 64.6% on SWE-Bench Verified. He develops Eval Studio for experiment analysis and PhaseShift, a TypeScript framework for composing AI agents.

  5. May 2025

    Weights & Biases joins CoreWeave

    In May 2025, CoreWeave completes its acquisition of Weights & Biases, the AI developer platform he co-founds in 2017.

    He is Chief Superintelligence Officer at CoreWeave and leads efforts to build and scale software platforms for AI researchers and engineers.
