Sergio Boixo
Also known as Sergio Boixo Castrillo
Sergio Boixo is a physicist and computer engineer whose quantum computing work includes a neural network that decodes errors in quantum processors. He graduated in computer engineering from Complutense University of Madrid in 1996 and earned a theoretical physics doctorate at the University of New Mexico in 2008. After postdoctoral years at Caltech and Harvard, he moved to the University of Southern California in 2011. He joined Google Quantum AI in 2013, and in 2019 he and John Martinis published a Google AI blog post on the quantum supremacy experiment. He is director of quantum computing at Google's Quantum AI lab, and the University of León gave him an honoris causa doctorate in 2026.
