Researcher

Sanmay Das

Sanmay Das researches AI, machine learning and computational social science. His work examines social feedback and the objectives used to allocate scarce resources. Das and Allen Lavoie developed a quantitative model of behaviour change after online feedback. Their original paper uses ideas from inverse reinforcement learning and tests predictions on Reddit data. His 2021 paper for AAAI 2022 studies AI allocation of scarce societal resources. It calls for closer engagement with political philosophy when choosing objectives involving fairness, efficiency and stakeholder preferences. At Virginia Tech, Das works on AI for public services and resources. He studied at Harvard as an undergraduate and MIT as a graduate student, and worked with the US Treasury on machine-learning approaches to credit risk.
