Samuel R. Bowman
Also known as Sam Bowman, Samuel Bowman
Sam Bowman is a researcher whose work runs from language benchmarks to AI alignment. He earned a PhD in 2016 for work on early neural network models for text. In 2018 he co-wrote GLUE, a benchmark for evaluating models across a diverse range of existing NLU tasks. He published The Checklist in September 2024 and posted Putting up Bumpers as a linkpost on the Anthropic Alignment Blog in April 2025. As of October 2026, he leads a research group on AI alignment and welfare at Anthropic while on leave from NYU.
