Rudolf Kruse

Rudolf Kruse is a computer scientist and mathematician whose work has centered on fuzzy systems and computational intelligence. He was born in Rotenburg/Wümme in 1952, earned a mathematics diploma in 1979 and a PhD in 1980 at TU Braunschweig, and became a professor there in 1986. He led the computational intelligence group in Magdeburg from 1996 to 2017, and in 1997 he co-wrote Foundations of Neuro-Fuzzy Systems with Detlef Nauck and Frank Klawonn. The IEEE honored him with its Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award in 2018, and EUSFLAT gave him its Scientific Excellence Award in 2023. He is an emeritus professor in Magdeburg, a status he has held since 2017.
