Robert Balzer
Robert Balzer worked with Keith Uncapher and Thomas Ellis to establish USC’s Information Sciences Institute in 1972. Balzer’s IJCAI paper Automated Enhancement of Knowledge Representations presents tools for maintaining knowledge representation systems when domain models change. It defines changes together with assumptions that the changes invalidate. The paper analyzes how frames and operations on frames must be revised after those assumptions fail. Its goal is support for incremental development of knowledge-based systems, with limits on the kinds of enhancement the proposed tools cover.
