Qiang Ji
Qiang Ji is a professor at Rensselaer whose AI research applies computer vision and probabilistic graphical models to face analysis. He earned a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Washington, joined RPI in 2001 after serving as an assistant professor at the University of Nevada at Reno, and directed NSF machine-learning and computer-vision programs from January 2009 to August 2010. IAPR named him a Fellow in 2012 for contributions to face image analysis and applications, and the IEEE Computer Society named him an IEEE Fellow in 2015. In 2019, he published Probabilistic Graphical Models for Computer Vision and received RPI's Research Excellence Award for work in computer vision, probabilistic machine learning, and affective computing. He coauthored a 2026 paper on physics-informed 3D face reconstruction; as of October 2026, he is a professor in RPI's Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering.
