Noor Shaker

Noor Shaker is an entrepreneur whose companies apply artificial intelligence to drug discovery and cancer diagnosis. After studying at KU Leuven, she moved to Copenhagen in 2009 for a PhD; in 2016 she became an assistant professor at Aalborg University. She co-wrote the textbook Procedural Content Generation in Games, published in 2016. Her startups include GTN, co-founded in 2017, and Glamorous AI, which X-Chem acquired in 2021. As of October 2026, she is founder and CEO of SpatialX, which applies AI to pathology.

  1. 2009

    A PhD in Copenhagen

    She moves to Belgium for a master's at KU Leuven, then to Denmark in 2009 for a PhD at the IT University of Copenhagen.

  2. 2016

    Aalborg and a games textbook

    She becomes an assistant professor at Aalborg University in 2016. With Julian Togelius and Mark J. Nelson, she co-writes Procedural Content Generation in Games, published in 2016.

  3. 2017

    Co-founding GTN

    In 2017, she co-founds GTN Ltd, a startup aiming to combine quantum computing and AI for drug discovery.

  4. 2018–2019

    CogX, MIT and BBC honours

    She wins a CogX UK Rising Star Award in 2018, and MIT Technology Review names her to its Innovators Under 35 Europe list in 2018. In 2019, the BBC includes her on its 100 Women list.

  5. August 2019–March 2020

    Stepping down at GTN

    In August 2019 she steps down as GTN's CEO, and the company enters liquidation in March 2020.

  6. 2021

    Glamorous AI joins X-Chem

    She co-founds Glamorous AI, an AI drug discovery start-up, and X-Chem acquires it in 2021.

  7. 2023

    Founding SpatialX

    After her tenure at X-Chem, she founds SpatialX in late 2023 to apply artificial intelligence to computational pathology.

  8. As of October 2026

    Founder and CEO of SpatialX

    She is founder and CEO of SpatialX, a company applying AI to pathology to improve cancer diagnostics.
