Nobuyuki Otsu
Also known as 大津展之
Nobuyuki Otsu is a pattern-recognition researcher whose name is attached to Otsu's method, a standard technique in Japan and abroad. He graduated in mathematical engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1969 and joined the Electrotechnical Laboratory in 1971. He became director of the Machine Understanding Division in 1991, and he promoted real world intelligence research in a MITI project that ran from 1992 to 2001. In 1998 the MVA conference named his paper with Takio Kurita a most influential paper over the decade. He retired from AIST in 2012 and holds the title of Emeritus Researcher.
