Nikos Paragios

Also known as Νίκος Παραγιός

Nikos Paragios is a computer vision researcher, and IEEE made him a Fellow in 2011 for his work on continuous and discrete inference. He studied computer science at the University of Crete and earned a PhD at Inria and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in 2000. From 1999 to 2004 he worked at Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton, and from 2007 to 2017 he was scientific leader at Inria. He edited Computer Vision and Image Understanding from 2012 to 2022, and in 2017 he helped found TheraPanacea, a company that uses AI to make radiotherapy more effective and safer. As of October 2026, he is founder, president and chief executive of TheraPanacea.

    Studies in Crete and Nice

    He completes a B.Sc. in computer science in 1994 and an M.Sc. in 1996 at the University of Crete. In 2000 he earns a PhD in electrical and computer engineering at Inria and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis.

    He works at Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton, New Jersey, from 1999 to 2004, as a project manager and research scientist.

    In 2006 MIT Technology Review names him one of the top 35 innovators under the age of 35. In 2011 he becomes an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to continuous and discrete inference in computer vision.

    Scientific leader at Inria

    He serves as scientific leader at Inria from 2007 to 2017. From 2011 to 2017 he directs the Center for Visual Computing at CentraleSupélec.

  5. 2012–2022

    Editing a computer vision journal

    He edits the journal Computer Vision and Image Understanding as editor in chief from 2012 to 2022.

  6. March 2017

    Founding TheraPanacea

    He helps found TheraPanacea in March 2017, a startup that aims to make radiotherapy more effective and safer with AI.

    He is founder, president and chief executive officer of TheraPanacea, an information technology company that targets precision medicine.
