Nicolo Fusi
Also known as Nicolò Fusi
As of October 2026, Nicolo Fusi is a Vice President and Distinguished Scientist at Microsoft Research, where he leads AI research teams in New York, Boston, and Montreal. His research sits at the intersection of AI and the life sciences, and he leads a research program that uses generative AI to accelerate scientific discovery. He completed a PhD in statistical genomics at the University of Sheffield in 2015, and in 2016 he co-authored a Nature Biotechnology paper on optimized sgRNA design for CRISPR-Cas9. In 2017 the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce honored him with a Visionary Award, and in 2018 he co-authored a NeurIPS paper on probabilistic matrix factorization for automated machine learning. In 2026 he co-wrote the launch post for Quine, an AI research system designed for the complexity of biology.
