Nicolas Heess
Nicolas Heess is a research scientist and Director of Robotics at Google DeepMind in London, and an honorary professor at University College London. He co-authored Continuous control with deep reinforcement learning, which introduced the DDPG algorithm and appeared at ICLR 2016. ICLR honored that paper with a Test of Time award in 2026. He earned a PhD in neuroinformatics at the University of Edinburgh in 2011, with a thesis on mid-level structure in natural images. The ICML 2024 Best Paper award went to Genie, which he co-authored.
