Researcher

Mihir Bellare

Mihir Bellare is a cryptographer who holds the Gill Williamson Professorship at UC San Diego. His link to AI runs through computational learning theory, and a 1992 paper of his offers a technique for upper bounding the spectral norm, with applications to learning. After his MIT PhD in 1991, he worked at IBM before joining UC San Diego's Jacobs School in 1995. Together with Phillip Rogaway, he received the Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award in 2009 for practice-oriented provable security. ACM named him a Fellow in 2013, and the Levchin Prize in 2019 recognized his work on the random oracle model.
