Michael Elad

Also known as Miki Elad, מיכאל אלעד

Michael Elad is a computer scientist whose work includes sparse representations and generative AI. He earned electrical engineering degrees at the Technion between 1986 and 1997, then worked at Hewlett-Packard Lab Israel and Stanford University before joining the Technion's computer science faculty in 2003. With Michal Aharon and Bruckstein, he co-created the K-SVD algorithm, and he wrote the 2010 book Sparse and Redundant Representations. In 2024 he received the Rothschild Prize in Engineering, and the Israel Academy of Sciences elected him a member. As of October 2026, he is a professor of computer science at the Technion.
