Researcher

Martin Hairer

Martin Hairer is a mathematician whose work on stochastic partial differential equations earned him the 2014 Fields Medal. By 2017 he held a chair at Imperial College London, and in November 2022 he took up a full professorship at EPFL. In 2026 he co-authored First Proof, a project that gives AI systems ten research-level math questions to answer. In February 2026, a New York Times interview featured his views on AI and mathematical research. As of October 2026, he holds the Chair in Probability and Stochastic Analysis at Imperial College London and is a professor at EPFL.
