Mark Nixon
Also known as M NIXON, M Nixon, M S Nixon, M. Nixon, M. S. Nixon, Mark S. Nixon
Mark Nixon is a computer vision researcher whose work applies image processing to gait recognition and biometric identification. He studied cybernetics and applied estimation theory at the University of Reading, then built his academic career at Southampton. His research includes a gait paper in 1997, a 2005 book on human identification from gait, and a fourth edition of his computer vision book in 2019. He became an IAPR Fellow in 2008, received the BMVA Distinguished Fellow award in 2015, and received the IEEE Biometrics Council's Leadership Award in 2025. As of October 2026, he is editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behaviour and Identity Science and an emeritus professor at Southampton.
