Mária Bieliková

Also known as Maria Bielikova

Mária Bieliková is a Slovak researcher whose work covers machine learning, human-computer interaction and misinformation online. She studied at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, earning an engineering degree in 1989 and a PhD in 1995. In 2005 she became one of the youngest full professors in Slovakia, and from 2015 to 2020 she was dean of the informatics faculty. In 2020 she founded the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies (KInIT) with colleagues, and in 2024 the ESET Science Award named her Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia. She is the CEO of KInIT and chairs the Slovak Permanent Committee for Ethics and Regulation of AI.

  1. 1989–1995

    Engineering degree and PhD

    She is initially interested in psychology before she chooses informatics. At the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava she earns an engineering degree in 1989 and a PhD in 1995.

  2. 2005

    Among Slovakia's youngest full professors

    In 2005 she becomes one of the youngest full professors in Slovakia.

  3. 2015–2020

    Dean of the informatics faculty

    She serves as dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies at the Slovak Technical University from 2015 to 2020.

  4. 2019

    Linking academia with companies

    In 2019 she comes up with the idea of connecting the academic community, companies and state or non-profit institutions on the topic of artificial intelligence.

  5. 2020

    Founding the Kempelen Institute

    In 2020 she founds the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies with colleagues. There she works on artificial intelligence and machine learning.

  6. 2024

    Order of Ľudovít Štúr

    In 2024 President Zuzana Čaputová awards her the Order of Ľudovít Štúr, 2nd class, for her contributions to the development of Slovakia in science and technology.

  7. 2024

    Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia

    In 2024 the ESET Science Award names her Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia for her work on machine learning and information overload. Her research also covers human-computer interaction and misinformation on the web.

  8. As of October 2026

    Chair of an AI ethics committee

    She is the CEO of KInIT and chairs the Slovak Permanent Committee for Ethics and Regulation of AI. In October 2024 the institute calls her its CEO.
