Marcello Restelli

Marcello Restelli is a full professor at Politecnico di Milano, where he coordinates the Real-Life Reinforcement Learning lab (RL3). The lab works on reinforcement learning, the branch of machine learning in which software improves through rewards for its actions. He studied computer science engineering at Politecnico di Milano, earning a Ph.D. there in 2004, and in 2020 he co-founded ML cube, a university spin-off. A paper on maximum state entropy exploration, written with Mirco Mutti and Riccardo De Santi, won an Outstanding Paper Award at ICML 2022. He also received NeurIPS Reviewer Awards in 2013 and 2019 and was appointed an ELLIS Fellow in October 2024.
