Marco Baroni
Marco Baroni studies how artificial neural networks represent language, including large language models. He earned a PhD in linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2000, and became an associate professor at the University of Trento in 2013. His 2010 paper with Alessandro Lenci, Distributional Memory, received the ACL Test-of-Time Award in 2020. In 2016 he joined Facebook's AI research team, and in 2021 he was awarded an ERC Advanced Grant. At Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, he is an ICREA research professor and heads the ALiEN project on communication among deep networks.
