Linda Dounia Rebeiz is an artist whose AI work explores cultural memory, training-data gaps, and ecological loss. She studies at African Leadership Academy, then works in design, research, and product roles before making art with custom generative models. TIME names her to its 2023 AI 100, and Mozilla selects her as a 2024 RISE25 artist. She has been Head of Design at Playlab since July 2025. In 2026, her Once Upon A Garden installation appears at London’s V&A.

    African Leadership Academy

    She is an alumna of African Leadership Academy in the class of 2010.

  2. 2013–2021

    Design and product roles

    From 2013 to 2021, she moves through design, research, and product roles at Dalberg, Google, African Leadership University, Eneza, IDEO.org, and Zeera. By 2021, she is an artist represented by ArtXcode.

  3. 2023

    GAN art and data archives

    She uses generative adversarial networks to make AI art that challenges stereotypes about the Global South. Her speculative archiving builds models to remember what is missing from training data, and TIME names her to its 2023 AI 100.

  4. 2024

    A Mozilla RISE25 award

    Mozilla names her a 2024 RISE25 artist honoree. Her work uses AI and creative coding to mediate memory and excluded ways of being.

  5. 2025

    The Garden Eternal

    In 2025, she creates The Garden Eternal: California as part of Once Upon a Garden, using a generative model trained on preserved plant samples, botanists’ notes, drawings, and scientific papers to imagine flowers lost from the wild.

  6. 2025

    A StyleGAN2 alphabet

    In 2025, she makes Tongues from a custom model and presents it as about 225 StyleGAN2 inkjet prints. She combines traditional calligraphy and AI, drawing from seven existing writing systems to generate a unique alphabet.

  7. 2025

    The God Between the Waves

    In 2025, she anchors this work in a Serer creation myth and examines AI’s materiality through traces of extraction, displacement, and contamination.

  8. Since July 2025

    Head of Design at Playlab

    She is Head of Design at Playlab, an education nonprofit building open AI infrastructure for educators. In 2026, her Once Upon A Garden installation appears at the V&A and remains on view through October.
