Linda G. Shapiro
Also known as Linda Shapiro
Linda G. Shapiro is a computer vision researcher at the University of Washington, where she has worked since 1986. Her 1981 paper with Robert Haralick on structural descriptions and inexact matching appeared in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, and in 2001 she and George Stockman co-wrote Computer Vision, an undergraduate text. She received Pattern Recognition Society best paper awards in 1989 and 1995 and has been an IAPR fellow since 2000. Her current work includes robot vision, cancer biopsy analysis, brain image analysis and semantic segmentation.

1970–1984
Structures before Seattle
She earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics at the University of Illinois in 1970, then master's and PhD degrees in computer science at the University of Iowa in 1972 and 1974. She taught computer science at Kansas State University from 1974 to 1978 and at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University from 1979 to 1984. In 1981 she and Robert Haralick published "Structural Descriptions and Inexact Matching" in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence.
