Fei-Fei Li
Also known as Fei Fei Li
Fei-Fei Li is a Stanford professor whose work connects computer vision with the human effects of AI. Her education began in physics at Princeton and continued with a Caltech doctorate. With Jia Deng and colleagues, she helped develop ImageNet, the image dataset used by later recognition research. She led Stanford’s AI Lab and worked at Google, then helped build AI4ALL and Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered AI with their collaborators. Her current HAI role is founding director and senior fellow. In 2024, she co-founded World Labs with Justin Johnson, Ben Mildenhall, and Christoph Lassner to develop spatial intelligence. AMD’s September 2026 acquisition agreement says she will become executive vice president and chief scientist after closing. That planned appointment remains conditional on the transaction.

Research leadership
Li directs Stanford’s AI Lab and serves in Google leadership roles.
-
2015–2019
Education and human impact
AI4ALL and HAI develop through shared founding work; her current HAI role has since changed.
-
From 2024
World Labs
Li, Johnson, Mildenhall, and Lassner develop spatial AI, including generated 3D worlds.
