Lena Maier-Hein
Lena Maier-Hein studies how AI can support medical imaging and surgery. Her work includes learning from simulated images and validating medical algorithms. Maier-Hein joined DKFZ as a postdoctoral researcher in 2009 and led an independent junior group from 2012. In December 2020, Maier-Hein received an ERC Consolidator Grant to analyze tissue properties with light. The project uses AI both to improve simulations and to interpret images through algorithms trained in those simulations. Maier-Hein coauthored Metrics Reloaded, a joint Nature Methods publication on recommendations for image-analysis validation.
