Leila Amgoud
Also known as Leïla Amgoud
Leila Amgoud is a CNRS research director at IRIT whose work uses argumentation to explain AI decisions and evaluate competing claims. She studied in Algeria and Toulouse, completed a PhD on argument-based reasoning in 1999, joined CNRS in 2001 after postdoctoral work in the United Kingdom, and earned a research habilitation in 2009. She became a EurAI Fellow in 2014 and coauthored three new semantics for weighted argumentation graphs in 2017. From 2019 to 2023, she led an ANITI chair on argumentation and joined the Artificial Intelligence Journal Awards Committee in January 2021. Her 2026 work with Martin Cooper formalized counterfactual explanations; as of October 2026, she is principal investigator of ANITI’s Human-Centered AI chair for deliberation.
