Karsten Borgwardt
Karsten Borgwardt works on machine learning and systems biology. His group develops algorithms to detect patterns and statistical relationships in biological and medical data. Borgwardt completed doctoral work in Munich’s data-mining and database unit from 2005 to 2007, then conducted postdoctoral research with Zoubin Ghahramani’s Cambridge machine-learning group in 2007–2008. He led a Max Planck group in machine learning and computational biology from 2008 to 2014. He also held a Tübingen data-mining professorship from 2011 to 2014. Borgwardt held associate and full professorships in machine learning and computational biology at ETH Zürich. He held these positions from 2014 to 2017 and 2017 to 2023.
