Julien Mairal
Mairal received his PhD in 2010 at ENS Cachan under Francis Bach and Jean Ponce. He then spent two years in statistics at Berkeley with Bin Yu and joined Inria in 2012. He received an ERC Starting Grant in 2016 for SOLARIS and a Consolidator Grant in 2023 for APHELEIA. His research covers optimization, machine learning, signal processing and vision. The Cyanure toolbox was released in 2019, and Mairal received an ICML Test of Time Award that year. These connect his mathematical research with reusable machine-learning work.
