Julia Vogt
Julia Vogt is a computer scientist working at the intersection of machine learning and medicine. She studied mathematics in Konstanz and Sydney and earned a computer science doctorate in Basel. After research fellowships in New York and Konstanz, she joined Basel as an assistant professor in 2018 and moved her laboratory to ETH Zurich in May 2019. Her Medical Data Science Group studies multimodal information, structure detection and transparent models. Her group has published explainable cardiac models and efficient transformations of vision transformers.

Mathematics and medical research
Vogt studied mathematics in Konstanz and Sydney and earned her computer science doctorate at Basel. She later held research fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the University of Konstanz.

Build a medical data science group
She joined the University of Basel as an assistant professor in 2018. In May 2019, she and her laboratory moved to ETH Zurich. The group links computer science with medicine, with personalized patient treatment as its stated goal.

Explain cardiac patterns
Vogt coauthored a study combining electrocardiogram features and clinical variables to identify atrial flutter mechanisms. Its explainable tree model was evaluated on a 97-patient cohort. The authors identify wider prospective validation as future work.

Reduce transformer computation
She coauthored TOAST with her group. That study replaces some transformer blocks with simple mappings without further training and evaluates the change on pretrained vision models. This extends her research beyond clinical data.
