Josh Starmer
Also known as StatQuest
Josh Starmer created StatQuest to explain statistical methods to colleagues in genetics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Its videos developed a visual approach that divides complex ideas into small steps. The public video index leads from basic statistics through machine learning, neural networks and transformers. Starmer has also made illustrated guides to machine learning, neural networks and AI. In February 2025, DeepLearning.AI launched his course on attention in transformers, combining concepts with PyTorch code. His public statistics-guide repository adds Python and R examples. StatQuest gives learners connected ways to watch, read and test the methods behind modern AI.
