Joe Biden

Joe Biden is a former U.S. president whose 2023 Executive Order 14110 set federal AI requirements for risk assessment, testing and safeguards, then was revoked in January 2025. He earned degrees at the University of Delaware and Syracuse, then served Delaware in the Senate for 36 years and held leadership roles on the Judiciary and Foreign Relations committees. He served as vice president under Barack Obama and as president from 2021 to 2025. As of October 2026, his memoir Promise Me, America is scheduled for publication on November 17, 2026.

  1. 1942–1953

    From Scranton to Delaware

    Joe Biden is born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1942. His family moves to Claymont, Delaware, in 1953.

  2. 1965–1972

    University degrees and a Senate win

    He earns a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware in 1965 and a law degree from Syracuse University in 1968. Voters elect him to the Senate in 1972, when he is 29.

  3. 1973–2009

    Senate committee leadership

    From 1973 to 2009, he represents Delaware in the Senate. He serves as chair or ranking member of the Judiciary and Foreign Relations committees.

  4. 2009–2017

    Vice president under Obama

    From 2009 to 2017, he serves as the 47th vice president under Barack Obama. With Obama, he works to secure the Affordable Care Act and oversee an economic recovery plan.

  5. 2021–2025

    An executive order on AI

    He serves as the 46th president from 2021 to 2025. In October 2023, he issues Executive Order 14110, which directs risk assessment, robust evaluations, standardized testing and safeguards for AI systems. The Trump administration revokes the order in January 2025.

  6. As of October 2026

    Public speaking and a memoir

    He is a former U.S. president and speaks at a South Carolina Democratic Party event in Columbia in February 2026. His memoir Promise Me, America is scheduled for publication on November 17, 2026.
