Jian Pei

Jian Pei is a professor of computer science at Duke University, where his research covers data mining and applied machine learning. He earned a PhD at Simon Fraser University in 2002 and was a professor there from 2004 until he joined Duke's engineering faculty in July 2022. The IEEE made him a Fellow in 2014, and the ACM named him a Fellow in 2015 for his contributions to the foundation, methodology and applications of data mining; SIGKDD gave him its Service Award in 2015 and its Innovation Award in 2017. In 2023 he became Arthur S. Pearse Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, and in 2026 he was selected for the PAKDD Distinguished Research Contributions Award.
