James Kwok
Also known as James Tin-Yau Kwok, James T. Kwok, 郭天佑
As of October 2026, James Kwok is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at HKUST, and his work includes kernel methods, SVM training and few-shot learning. He earned a BSc at the University of Hong Kong and a PhD in computer science at HKUST in 1996, supervised by Dit-Yan Yeung. After a stint as an assistant professor at Hong Kong Baptist University, he returned to HKUST in 2000. His papers include Core Vector Machines, a fast SVM training method from 2005, and a few-shot learning survey first submitted to arXiv in April 2019. He became an IEEE Fellow in November 2016 for work on kernel methods, and he serves as an IJCAI trustee for 2022–2027 and as program chair of IJCAI-25.
