James E. Rumbaugh
Also known as James Rumbaugh, Jim Rumbaugh
James Rumbaugh shaped software modeling through the Object Modeling Technique and the Unified Modeling Language. His 1975 MIT thesis described a parallel asynchronous computer architecture, and his 1991 book presented OMT as a notation for object-oriented systems. After more than 25 years at General Electric, he joined Rational in October 1994 and began UML work with Grady Booch; their team released early UML documents in 1996. He coauthored a 1999 guide to the Unified Process and led software-modeling work at IBM Rational as a Distinguished Engineer in 2005. By 2017, he worked at IBM and coauthored a second edition of the UML guide.
