J. Michael Brady
J. Michael Brady researches computer vision, robotics and medical-image analysis. He worked at the MIT AI Laboratory from 1980 to 1985 and joined Oxford in August 1985. With colleagues he helped establish Oxford robotics research, and with Alison Noble he developed the Medical Vision Laboratory. AAAI elected him a Fellow in 1990. He co-authored Mammographic Image Analysis with Ralph Highnam in 1999. His later research connected image analysis with minimally invasive surgery.

Timeline
-
1980–1985
Vision and robotics at MIT
Brady worked at the MIT AI Laboratory from 1980 to 1985. His initial focus was computer vision and image analysis, followed by robotics. His research retained an AI basis while moving toward the challenges of robots acting in physical environments.
-
1985
Information engineering at Oxford
Brady moved to Oxford as foundation professor of information engineering in August 1985. He and colleagues established the Robotics Research Laboratory. Autonomous guided vehicles were a major research interest during his first decade there.
-
1987–1990
Medical images and AI recognition
Brady’s interest in medical-image analysis dates from as early as 1987. Brady and Alison Noble established the Medical Vision Laboratory. AAAI elected him a Fellow in 1990.
-
1999–2006
Shared mammographic analysis
Brady coauthored Mammographic Image Analysis with Ralph Highnam in 1999. As of January 2006, Brady was interested in minimally invasive surgery.
