Ivana Isgum
Ivana Isgum works on AI for medical-image analysis. She earned a doctorate at Utrecht in 2007, served as an assistant professor from 2012 and as an associate professor from 2015. She moved to Amsterdam UMC and the University of Amsterdam in 2019. Her lab studies machine-learning analysis of arterial calcification, deep models for cardiovascular images and automatic analysis of the developing brain. As of October 2026, she leads the qurAI group and is a professor of medical-image AI.These methods aim to support risk profiling and patient care.

Timeline
-
2007–2015
Utrecht research career
Isgum earned a doctorate at Utrecht in 2007, became an assistant professor in 2012 and an associate professor in 2015. She led the Quantitative Medical Image Analysis group at UMC Utrecht.
-
2012–2016
Learning from cardiac CT and brain MRI
From 2012 to 2016, her lab studied machine-learning methods for arterial calcium scoring in cardiac CT and automatic analysis of the developing neonatal brain in MRI. These are distinct medical-image research applications.
-
2017–2022
Deep learning for cardiovascular images
DLMedIA projects from 2017 to 2022 studied generative models, transfer learning and high-dimensional cardiac CT and MRI.The projects aim to learn from limited observations and account for variation in scanners and patient populations.
-
2019
Amsterdam and qurAI
She moved to Amsterdam in 2019. As of October 2026, she is a professor of medical-image AI and leads qurAI. Her work continues to concern cardiology and radiology, including risk prediction and analysis of coronary images.
