Holger H. Hoos
Holger Hoos studies how machine learning and optimisation can help design and improve algorithms. Hoos develops programming by optimisation: a research approach that uses optimisation methods to improve algorithm design. His work also covers stochastic local search and automated algorithm configuration. Hoos launched CLAIRE with Morten Irgens and Philipp Slusallek in 2018. The initiative became a nonprofit international organization in 2019, with a focus on European, human-centred AI research.
