Hinrich Schütze
Also known as Hinrich Schutze
Hinrich Schütze researches computational linguistics and statistical language methods. He earned his Stanford doctorate in 1995. With Christopher Manning he coauthored a 1999 textbook on statistical NLP, and with Manning and Prabhakar Raghavan he wrote a 2008 information-retrieval textbook. The books cover concrete methods for processing and finding text. ACL elected him a Fellow in 2022. He leads computational linguistics and a language-processing center at LMU.

Timeline
-
1995
Doctoral study in language processing
Schütze earned a Stanford doctorate in computational linguistics in 1995.
-
1999
Statistical natural-language processing
Schütze coauthored Foundations of Statistical Natural Language Processing with Christopher Manning in 1999. The book covers probability, corpus methods, tagging, parsing, translation and text categorization. The work brought statistical methods and language tasks together in a shared teaching resource.

2008
Information retrieval
With Manning and Prabhakar Raghavan, Schütze published Introduction to Information Retrieval in 2008. The book takes a computer-science approach and covers indexing, ranking, probabilistic retrieval, classification and clustering.
