Hao Zhang
Hao Zhang is a machine-learning systems researcher and builder whose work includes vLLM, a system for serving large language models. He completed a computer-science Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon in 2020, worked at Petuum from 2016 to 2021, and joined UC Berkeley as a postdoctoral researcher from 2021 to 2023. At Berkeley, he coauthored the PagedAttention paper for vLLM and helped integrate the system with FastChat, which helped LMSYS serve Vicuna to millions of Chatbot Arena users. He joined Snowflake through an acquihire, co-founded LMSYS Org, and received a Google ML and Systems junior faculty award in 2025 and a Sloan Research Fellowship in 2026. As of October 2026, he is a senior software engineer at Snowflake and an assistant professor at UC San Diego.
