Haobo Wang

Also known as 王皓波

Haobo Wang is a Zhejiang University machine learning researcher whose work spans partial-label learning, LLM reasoning and structured data. He studied computer science and artificial intelligence at Zhejiang University, spent a visiting year at the University of New South Wales, and interned at NetEase and Alibaba. His PiCO framework pairs contrastive learning with prototype-based label disambiguation; the ICLR 2022 paper received an Outstanding Paper Award Honorable Mention, and PiCO+ extends it to noisy labels. Since 2023, he has been an assistant professor and PhD supervisor at Zhejiang University, with current interests in data-centric learning, LLM agents, and table intelligence.

Timeline

  1. 2014–2018

A degree and a visiting year

He earns a B.E. in computer science at Zhejiang University and spends 2017–2018 as a visiting student at the University of New South Wales.

  2. 2018–2020

    Industry internships

He interns at NetEase in Hangzhou from 2018 to 2019, then works as a research intern at Alibaba in Hangzhou from 2019 to 2020.

  3. 2018–2023

    A doctorate and PiCO

He completes a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence at Zhejiang University in 2023. PiCO pairs contrastive learning with class prototypes to disambiguate partial labels; it receives an Outstanding Paper Award Honorable Mention and appears in the ICLR 2022 oral program.

  4. 2022–2024

    Extending PiCO to noisy labels

In a 2022 preprint, Wang and coauthors extend PiCO to noisy partial-label learning, where the true label may be absent from the candidate set. PiCO+ uses clean-sample selection and semi-supervised contrastive learning; the paper appears in TPAMI in 2024.

  5. Since 2023

    Joining the faculty

He joins Zhejiang University's School of Software Technology as an assistant professor and PhD supervisor in 2023.

  6. 2023–2025

    Dissertation awards

His honors include the 2023 “Wu Wen-Jun” CAAI Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation and ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Award (Hangzhou Chapter), plus a 2025 WAIC Yunfan Award Rising Star nomination.

  7. As of October 2026

    Research across models and tables

His current interests include data-centric machine learning, LLM reasoning and agents, and table and structured data intelligence.

  8. As of October 2026

    Service across AI venues

Wang serves as an Action Editor for Transactions on Machine Learning Research and an area chair for ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, ACL and EMNLP.
