Giuseppe Carleo
Giuseppe Carleo is a physicist who uses neural networks to represent quantum wave functions. He earned a theoretical physics PhD at the International School for Advanced Studies in 2011, then held postdoctoral positions in France and at ETH Zurich. In 2016 he and Matthias Troyer introduced a neural-network representation of many-particle quantum wave functions, and Science published the paper in 2017. He joined the Flatiron Institute in New York in 2018 and moved to EPFL in September 2020. In 2024 the Nobel Committee cited his 2017 paper in its scientific background, and he is an associate professor of physics at EPFL.
