Researcher

Gerhard Neumann

Neumann earned a PhD from TU Graz in 2012, later worked at TU Darmstadt and was a professor at Lincoln from 2016 to 2019. He held a Bosch AI leadership role and a Tübingen appointment from March to December 2019. Neumann began leading KIT’s Autonomous Learning Robots chair in January 2020. His research focuses on data-efficient algorithms, robot skills taught by people and human-robot collaboration. Neumann coauthored Learning Riemannian Manifolds for Geodesic Motion Skills. The team used a variational autoencoder and geometric paths to learn movements from demonstrations and adapt them around new obstacles.
