    Mathematics at Athens and Brown

She earns a mathematics BS from the University of Athens in 1987, followed by an MS in 1988 and a PhD in 1993 in applied mathematics at Brown University. Her doctoral research begins under Stella Constantine Dafermos and continues with Thomas L. Magnanti.

  2. 1995–2000

    Joining MIT Sloan

After teaching as a visiting assistant professor in Brown University's Division of Applied Mathematics, she joins MIT's Operations Research Center as a postdoctoral associate in 1995 and becomes an assistant professor at MIT Sloan in 1998. In 2000, she receives the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers for research on traffic equilibria and her commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.

  3. 2016

    An INFORMS fellowship

In 2016, she is elected a fellow of INFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

  4. 2018

    Forecasting new product sales

In 2018, she shares first place in the Production and Operations Management Society's Applied Research Challenge for “Leveraging Comparables for New Product Sales Forecasting.” Her coauthors are Lennart Baardman and Divya Singhvi of MIT's Operations Research Center and Igor Levin of Johnson & Johnson.

  5. 2019

    Analytics review and ORC leadership

In 2019, she coauthors “Data Analytics in Operations Management: A Review” with Velibor V. Mišić, examining applications in supply chain management, revenue management, and healthcare operations. She also becomes co-director of MIT's Operations Research Center in 2019, an interdepartmental PhD program that jointly reports to MIT Sloan and the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing.

  6. 2021–2022

    Journal editor and computing dean

In January 2021, she becomes editor-in-chief of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management and receives the MSOM Society's Distinguished Fellow Award in 2021. In September 2022, she becomes an associate dean of Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing at the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, alongside Caspar Hare, and also assumes an associate dean role at MIT Sloan.

  7. February 2024–July 2025

    Interim dean of MIT Sloan

She becomes MIT Sloan's John C Head III Dean (Interim) in February 2024 at the invitation of MIT Provost Cynthia Barnhart. Her term ends in July 2025, when Rick Locke becomes dean.

  8. May 2025

    Causal language model routing

In May 2025, she coauthors “Causal LLM Routing: End-to-End Regret Minimization from Observational Data” with Asterios Tsiourvas and Wei Sun. The work proposes a method that learns which language model to select for each query from data containing the outcomes of models actually used, with accuracy and cost among the selection criteria.

  9. 2025

    The Salzberg Academic Medallion

In 2025, Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management awards her the Salzberg Academic Medallion. She is also a visiting scholar at Harvard Business School in 2025.
