Floriana Esposito

Floriana Esposito coordinates the bachelor's program in computer science at the University of Bari, where she has been a full professor since 1994. Her work covers decision-tree pruning and theory revision in machine learning. She studied electronic physics in Bari, earning her laurea in 1970, and joined the university in 1974. In 1989 she founded LACAM, the Laboratory for Knowledge Acquisition and Machine Learning, and she serves as its scientific head. She headed the computer science department from 2003 to 2008 and became a fellow of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence in 2006.

    Electronic physics in Bari

    She studies electronic physics at the University of Bari, earns a laurea in 1970, and joins the university in 1974.

  2. 1989

    Founding the LACAM laboratory

    Comparing decision-tree pruning

    With Donato Malerba and Giovanni Semeraro, she publishes a further comparison of pruning methods for decision trees in 1995.

    Theory revision in INTHELEX

    With colleagues, she publishes "Multistrategy Theory Revision: Induction and Abduction in INTHELEX" in the journal Machine Learning in 2000.

  5. 2003–2008

    Heading the computer science department

    She heads the computer science department at the University of Bari from 2003 to 2008.

  6. 2006

    A fellowship from EurAI

    The European Association for Artificial Intelligence elects her as a fellow in 2006.
